1. Fibre X is produced using petrochemicals.
2. Fibre Y is obtained from animals.
3. Fibre X has a low moisture-absorption capacity compared to Fibre Y.

Solution

The correct option is B 1 and 3
Synthetic fibres such as polyester, on burning, generally melt and give an odour similar to that of burning plastic. Therefore, fibre X is polyester which is produced using petrochemicals.

So statement (1) is true.

Animal fibres on burning, generally do not melt and give an odour similar to that of burning hair.

Plant fibres on burning, generally do not melt and give an odour similar to that of burning paper. Therefore, fibre Y is obtained from plants, not animals.

So statement (2) is false.

Natural fibres (animal and plant fibres) generally have high moisture-absorption capacities compared to synthetic fibres. Therefore, fibre X will have a low moisture-absorption capacity compared to fibre Y.

So statement (3) is true.

Therefore, the correct option is (d).
