The occurrence of ________ is also a direct consequence of the rectilinear propagation of light.

Solution

  1. Sometimes the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon come in a straight line. When this happens, the heavenly object in the centre blocks the sunlight thereby casting its shadow on the last body.
  2. When the moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, in such conditions the moon casts its shadow over Earth.

Hence, the occurrence of eclipse is also a direct consequence of the rectilinear propagation of light.
