Plasmolysis:
It occurs as a result of osmosis when the solvent i.e., the water molecules moves out of the cell sap causing the cell to shrink.
It is because the cell is placed in a hypertonic solution causing exosmosis. When water starts oozing out of the cell it reduces the tension in the cell wall causing contraction of cell.
Deplasmolysis:
The opposite of plasmolysis is deplasmolysis where the cell swells up as a result of the inward flow of water molecules in the cell sap.
