  2. In general, the atomic radius decreases across a period because as electron shielding remains constant over time, effective nuclear charge increases. A higher effective nuclear charge attracts electrons more strongly, drawing the electron cloud closer to the nucleus and resulting in a smaller atomic radius.
  3. Atomic radius increases down a group because down a group, the number of energy levels (n) increases, so there is a greater distance between the nucleus and the outermost orbital. This results in a larger atomic radius.
  4. Group number of elements: Be - 2, C - 14, F - 17, Ne - 18
  5. So the expected order, Be>C>F>Ne
