Mesoglea is the translucent, non-living, jelly-like substance found between the ectoderm and endoderm in the bodies of sponges, cnidarians and coelenterates. These are diploblastic animals. Sponges do not show a presence of any tissues but coelenterates show a presence of simple tissue. But these are simple and lower grade animals compared to other larger animals. They do not show a presence of a well organised nervous system.
