The outer and inner diameters of a hemispherical bowl are 17 cm and 15 cm respectively. Find the cost of polishing it all over at 25 paise per cm2. ( Take π = 227).
Outer radius = 172 cm , Inner radius = 152 cm.
Area of outer surface = 2 πR2 = [2π×(172)]cm2=(289π2)cm2 .
Area of inner surface = 2 πr2 = [2π×(152)]cm2=(225π2)cm2 .
Area of the ring at the top = π(R2−r2)=π[(8.5)2−(7.5)2]cm2=(16π)cm2.
∴ Total area to be polished = (289π2+225π2+16π)cm2
= (273 π)cm2=(273×227)cm2=858cm2.
∴ Cost of polishing the bowl = Rs (858×25100) = Rs. 214.50
