Solution

Oxidising agent

  • Any substance which is capable of oxidising other substances is called oxidising agents.
  • It is capable of accepting electron which is lost during oxidation is called oxidising agents.
  • CuSO4(aq)+Zn(s)ZnSO4(aq)+Cu(s)
  • Copper ions undergo reduction and zinc get oxidised
  • Oxidation number of oxidising agents decreases during a chemical reaction.
  • Hence copper sulphate is the oxidising agent and zinc is the reducing agent
