Find the effective percentage increase in the number of students from 19981999 to 20002001.

Let the total number of students of the school in the year 19981999 be x.
Number of students in the year 19992000=x+20% of x=x+20100×x=x+x5=6x5
Similarly no. of students in the year 20002001=6x5+30% of6x5=6x5+30100×6x5=78x50
Effective increase in number of students=78x50x=28x50
Thus, effective percentage increase=IncreaseinnumberofstudentsOriginalnumberofstudents×100=28x50x×100=56%
