The perimeter of a rectangular swimming pool is 70m. If its length and breadth are in the ratio of 5 : 2, find the breadth of the pool (in metre).
Perimeter of swimming pool = 70m (Given)
We know that,
Perimeter = 2(length + breadth).
Since length and breadth are given to be in the ratio 5:2, we can assume them to be 5x and 2x respectively.
i.e. length = 5x and breadth = 2x
Substituting these in the formula of perimeter, we get
70 = 2(5x + 2x)
⇒7x = 35
⇒ x = 5
So, breadth of the swimming pool = 2x = 2×5 = 10 m
