Question

The perimeter of an isosceles triangle is 42 cm and its base is 32 times each of the equal sides. Find the length of each side of the triangle, area of the triangle and height of the triangle.

Open in App
Solution

Let the equal sides of the isosceles triangle each be x

Given that length of base =3x2

3x2+x+x=42cm

3x2+2x=42

3x+4x=84

x=12cm

Equal Sides =12cm and Base =18cm

We know that the height of an isosceles triangle divides it into two right-angled triangles.

Base2+ Height2= Hypotenuse2

92+h2=122

h=12292

h=14481

h=37cm

Area =12× Base × Height

=277 cm2
