Given: Perimeter of rectangular piece of paper = 56 cm
Length = 3 $\times$ Width
Let the width be $x$ cm.
$\Rightarrow$ Length $= 3 x$ cm
$∴$ Perimeter =2(length + width) $= 2 (3 x + x) = 8 x$ cm
$\Rightarrow 8 x = 56 \Rightarrow x = 7$
$∴$ Width is 7 cm long.
