The perimeter of the square plot shown in the figure below is 20 m. A cow is standing in the middle of the plot as shown. What is the minimum distance the cow has to walk in order to go out of the plot and drink water?

Given, perimeter of the square plot = 20 m
Perimeter of a square = 4 × side length
⇒ Side of a square = perimeter4
∴Side length of the given square plot = 204 = 5 m
Since the cow is standing at the middle of the plot, in order to come out, it has to walk a length which is half the side length of the square plot.
∴ Distance the cow has to walk = 52 = 2.5 cm
