The acceleration of the vehicle down the plane is g sin α The reaction force acting on the penduclum bob gives it an acceleration a = g sin α up the plane. This acceleration has two rectangular components ax=acosα=gsin α cosα and ay=a sin α=g sin2α as shown in fig. 9.36. the effective acceleration due to gravity acting on the bob is given by

g2eff=a2x+(gay)2
=a2x+g2+a2y2gay
=g2sin2αcos2α+g2+g2som4α2g2sin2α
=g2sin2α(cos2α+sin2α)+g2sin2α
=g2(1sin2α)=g2cos2α
