Question

The perpendicular distance between the point of application of force and the turning point is 1.75 m, when a force of 80N acts on a rigid body. calculate the moment of force?

Open in App
Solution

DEFINITION:

Moment of force : The Moment of a force is a measure of its tendency to cause a body to rotate about a specific point or axis

moment of force =force x perpendicular distance

Solution:

Given ,

Force(F)=80N

Perpendicular distance= 1.75 m

Moment of force= Force X Perpendicular distance

=80 N X 1.75

=140 N-m

Conclusion ;

Therefore the moment of force is equal to 140 N-m
