Solution

The correct option is C Chorionic Gonadotropin
Corpus luteum
After ovulation, the granulosa cells and interstitial cells of the Graffian follicle form a mass of large and yellowish conical cells called the corpus luteum. It functions as an endocrine gland and secretes hormones like estrogen, progesterone, relaxin, and inhibin. Progesterone produced by the corpus luteum helps to maintain pregnancy.

Role of LH in the development of corpus luteum
Luteinizing hormone is secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. It induces ovulation and stimulates the development of the corpus luteum and the production of progesterone by the corpus luteum. LH has no role in the persistence of the corpus luteum.

Role of hCG
After fertilisation and implantation, the placenta is formed which produces hCG. hCG helps in the persistence and the secretion of progesterone by the corpus luteum for 7 to 10 weeks of gestation after which the placenta takes over the secretion of progesterone.

FSH
FSH helps in the formation of the Graafian follicle. Once the state of pregnancy is reached, the levels of FSH are reduced.

Testosterone
Testosterone is secreted by the Leydig cells of the testis and is responsible for the development of secondary sexual characteristics in males.

Final answer
(B) Chorionic Gonadotropin
