The pH of the mouth is slightly acidic. If we do not brush our teeth daily they start decaying, what could be the reason for that?

If we do not brush our teeth daily, food remains in our mouth causing an acidic environment in the mouth. which in turn decreases the pH of the mouth causing degradation of tooth enamel of tooth. To prevent this we use toothpaste which is basic in nature.
