  1. When a beam traveling in a medium falls on the boundary of another medium, a part of the incident light bounces back into the original medium. The phenomenon of bouncing back of light in the same medium is called the reflection of light.
  2. The ray that strikes the surface i.e. mirror is called an incident ray.
  3. The ray that bounces back after striking the surface is called a reflected ray.

Hence, the phenomenon by which the incident light falling on a surface is sent back into the same medium is known as the reflection of light.
