Adsorption is the accumulation of molecular species at the surface rather than in the bulk of a solid or liquid.
Application of adsorption:
1. In curing disease: Some medicines are surface active and their primary step of action of curing is adsorption over the pathogen surface.
2. Heterogeneous catalysis: Adsorption of reactants on the solid surface of the catalysts increase the rate of the reaction
3. When vessel evacuated by a vacuum pump, there will be some traces of air which can be removed by adsorption on charcoal to obtain very high vacuum.
