The photograph given above shows a section of a grille made up of straight and curved iron bars. How would you measure the length of the bars of this section, so that the payment could be made to the contractor?

Solution

A measuring tape can be used to measure the length of the straight iron bars of the grille.
We cannot measure the length of a curved line directly by using a metre scale or tape.
So, we can use a thread to measure the length of the curved line, which can be further measured with the help of a scale.
Thus, the total length of the grill can be measured properly.
