Plasma membrane:
Plasma membrane is a lipid bilayer containing integral and peripheral proteins.
Since it has a hydrophobic lipid bilayer only lipid soluble molecules can easily diffuse through and not hydrophilic solutes.
The membrane proteins bind and allow only certain hydrophilic solute molecules to pass through the plasma membrane. Thus the plasma membrane is called a selectively permeable membrane.
