The male gametes and all the cells of the embryo sac are haploid. Therefore, the ploidy of male gamete, egg cell and polar nuclei can be represented by ‘n’. During syngamy when egg cell fuses with the male gamete to form a zygote, the ploidy doubles and can be represented as ’2n’. The primary endosperm nucleus is a triploid nucleus formed by the fusion of two polar nuclei and one male gamete. Therefore, it’s ploidy can be represented as ‘3n’.
