Question

The position of an object moving along the x-axis is given by x=a+bt2, where a=8.5m and b=2.5ms2, and t is measured in seconds. The average velocity of the object between t = 2s and t = 4s is

Solution

Step 1:Given:

x=a+bt2

a=8.5m

b=2.5ms2

Step 2:Calculate distance att=2s.

x1=8.5+2.5×22=8.5+10=18.5m

Step 3:Calculate distance at t=4s.

x2=8.5+2.5×42=48.5m

Step 4:Calculate the average velocity of the object.

vavg=x2-x1t=48.5-18.54-2=302=15ms

Hence, the average velocity of the object is 15ms
