Solution

Covalent compounds:

  • A covalent compound is formed by sharing electrons between two atoms and the bonding is known as covalent bonding.

The element that forms a covalent compound:

  • Element E belongs to Group 14 and has four electrons in its outermost shell.
  • Element E is Silicon.
  • Silicon belongs to group 14 and the third period with the atomic number 14.
  • It will form only covalent bonds only.
  • Silicon's outermost orbit has four electrons and requires four more for stability.

So, Element E will only form covalent compounds.
