  1. Element A belongs to group 17, which means it has seven electrons in its outer shell.
  2. A requires one more electron to achieve inert gas configuration, and obtaining one electron will result in the formation of a monovalent negative ion.
  3. As a result, A is not a metal but is a non-metal.
