Aldehyde reacts with hydroxyl amine to form oxime.
PhCH=CHCH(CH3)CHO+NH2OH PhCH=CHCH(CH3)CH=NOH+H2O
The product PhCH=CHCH(CH3)CH=NOH contains only one chiral carbon atom. Hence, it has 2n=21=2 optical isomers.
In addition it contains two double bonds. Hence, it also has geometrical isomers. Each double bond will give cis and trans isomers.
Thus, total number of possible stereoisomers are 8.
