Solution

Instructions:
  • Describe all five characteristics.
Solution:
The five ideals of our constitution are the sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic and republic.
  • Sovereign means that India takes its own decisions and performs its action at its will. India is not a subordinate of any other country.
  • The second ideal is socialist. After independence, India strives to become a welfare state. The state and the government discourage the concentration of wealth and property under a small group of people. The wealth must be distributed equally to all the sections of the society.
  • The third ideal is secularism. The state of India neither favours any religion nor deprives a religious group of certain opportunities. People from all the religions enjoy equal rights in India.
  • The fourth ideal is India being a democratic nation. The government in India is directly elected by the citizens of India through elections.
  • The last ideal is the Republic nature of India. Being a Republic simply means that the head of the state or the nation is an elected representative of the people. The head of the state of India, that is the president is elected and is not a hereditary power.
