Solution

Let Sahil’s present age be x
Then, his mother’s present age will be 3x
[0.5 mark]

After 5 years,
Sahil’s age = x+5
Sahil's mother’s age = 3x+5
[0.5 mark]

Sum of Sahil and Sahil's Mother's age after 5 years = 66

x+5+3x+5=66 4x+10=66 4x+1010=6610 4x=56 x=14And 3x=42

Sahil’s age is 14 years and his mother’s age is 42 years.
