Open in App
Solution

Let A be the event that the husband will be alive in 20 years.

B be the event that the wife will be alive in 20 years. Clearly A and B are independent events.

P(AB)=P(A)P(B).
Given:P(A)=35,P(B)=23

The probability that at least one of them will be alive in 20 years is
P(AB)=P(A)+P(B)P(AB)
=P(A)+P(B)P(A)P(B)
=35+2335.23

=35+2325

=15+23

=3+1015=1315
