Artificial hybridisation is one of the major approaches of crop improvement programme. In such crossing experiments it is important to make sure that only the desired pollen grains are used for pollination and the stigma is protected from undersired pollen contamination. This is achieved by emasculation and bagging techniques.
In emasculation process, the anthers are removed with forceps before pollen grains are released. Thereafter, the flower is bagged till it attains receptivity. Once, the flowers attain receptivity, desired pollen grains are dusted.
