The transformation of a plant to a finished product is known as material processing. This process involves three types of economic activities which are as follows :
a. PRIMARY ACTIVITIES – activities related to extraction and production of natural resources comes under Primary activities . e.g. Agriculture, fishing etc.
b. SECONDARY ACTIVITIES – activities related to the processing of natural resources comes under Secondary activities. Eg. Manufacturing steel , baking of bread etc.
c. TERTIARY ACTIVITIES – activities that provides support to the primary and secondary sectors through services comes under tertiary activities. e.g .transport, trade, insurance etc.
