Question

The quantity of matter contained in an object is called mass. It remains constant whether the object is on earth, the moon, or even in outer space. Weight on the other hand is the force of attraction of the earth with which an object is attracted towards the earth. Now, suppose a man weighs 600 N on earth, his weight on moon would be 100 N.

Solution

The correct option is C

1.66m/s2

Step 1: Given

Weight of man on earth=600N

Weight of man on mass=100N

Step 2: Finding g on the moon

By using formula W=m×g

600=m×1060010=mm=60kg

Mass of man on the moon =60kg

We have,

W=m×g100=60×g10060=gg=1.66m/s2

Hence, acceleration due to gravity on the moon is 1.66m/s2
