About radicals

  • A radical is a single unit which is made up of an atom of an element or a group of atoms of different elements with a positive or negative charge on it.

Types of radicals:-

  • Simple radicals - Ca+ (Calcium ion) ,Cl- (Chlorine ion).
  • Compound radicals - SO4 2- (Sulphate) , NH4 + (Ammonium).

Hence, the radical which is made up of more than one kind of atom are called compound radicals.
