Question

The radii of curvature of lens are +20cm and +30cm. The material of the lens has refracting index 1.6. find the focal length of the lens (a) if it is placed in air, and (b) if it is placed in water (μ=1.33)

Open in App
Solution

R1=+20cm;R2=+30cm;μ=1.6
a) If placed in air:
1f=(μg1)(1R11R2)=(1.611)(120130)

f=60/6=100cm

b) If placed in water:
1f=(μw1)(1R11R2)=(1.61.331)(120130)

f=300cm
