Question

The radii of two cylinders are in the ratio2:3and their heights are in the ratio5:3. Find the ratio of their volumes and ratios of their curved surfaces.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1. Given measures of the cylinder

The ratio of radii of two cylinders =2:3

And

The ratio of heights =5:3

Step 2. Finding the ratios of volumes of the cylinder

Let r1,h1 and r2,h2 be the radii and heights of two cylinders respectively.

r1r2=23and h1h2=53

Now,

VolumeoffirstcylinderVolumeofsecondcylinder=π(r1)2h1π(r2)2h2

=r1r22×h1h2

=232×53

=49×53=2027

Step 3. Finding the ratios of curved surfaces of the cylinder

CurvedsurfaceoffirstcylinderCurvedsurfaceofsecondcylinder=2πr1h12πr2h2

=r1r2×h1h2=23×53=109

Hence, the ratios of volumes of the cylinder 20:27 and the ratios of curved surfaces of the cylinder 10:9 .
