The rate of diffusion is dependent on the permeability of the medium, it however:
does not influence the final equilibrium of diffusion
If the medium is more dense, the molecules, atoms, ions of solids, liquid or gases will take more time to get evenly distributed. Equilibrium is the state where the concentrations of the diffusing substances become even everywhere. This state is not changed. Even if the diffusion is slow in a dense medium, the equilibrium will eventually be reached.
