The formula for wavelength of Lyman series is written as

For first, second and third lines of Lyman series n=2,3,4 respectively.

For first-line of Lyman series

1λ1=R[1122]=3R4

λ1=43R

For second-line of Lyman series

1λ2=R[1132]=8R9

λ2=98R

For the third line of Lyman series

1λ3=R[1142]=15R16

λ3=1615R

Difference between 1st and 2nd line wavelength

λ1λ2=43R98R=524R

Difference between 2nd and 3rd line wavelength

λ2λ3=98R1615R=7120R

Ratio = λ1λ2λ2λ3=257=3.5:1
