Question

The ratio of earth's orbital angular momentum (about the sun) to its mass is 4.4×1015m2/s. The area enclosed by earth's orbit approximately is n×1022 m2. Then n is
(Answer upto two decimal places)

Solution

Let L = Angular momentum of each about sun.
M = Mass of earth
By Kepler's law, dAdt=L2M
or dA=L2Mdt

The earth completes its orbital journey in 365 days
Area A=L2M×T=12(LM)T,
where T = 365 days
or A=(4.4×1015)×365×24×60×602 m2
or Area =6.94×1022 m2
Area enclosed by earth's orbit =6.94×1022m2
n=6.94
