Question

The ratio of incomes of Salim and Jawed was 20 : 11. Three years later income of Salim has increased by 20 % and income of Jawed was increased by Rs. 500. Now ratio of their incomes becomes 3 : 2. Find original incomes of Salim and Jawed.

Let income of Salim = 20x
Income of Jawed = 11x
After 3 years,
Income of Salim = 20x+20100×20x=24x
Income of Jawed = 11x+500
Therefore,
24x11x+500=32

48x=33x+1500
15x=1500
x=100
Hence, income of Salim = 20x=2000Rs.
Income of Jawed = 11x=1100Rs.
