Solution

Given, ratio of men and women passenger =4:7

Women passenger =147

Let men passenger be x

It is written as men passenger : women passenger =4:7

x:147::4:7

Product of extreme terms = product of mean terms

x×7=147×4x=147×47x=14721×471x=21×4x=84

Number of men passengers =84

Total number of passengers =147+84=231

Hence, the men passengers and total number of passengers are 84and 231respectively.
