Question

The ratio of the areas of two triangles with the common base is $$6 : 5$$. Height of the larger  triangle is $$9\ cm$$, then find the corresponding height of the smaller triangle.


Solution

The ratio of the areas of two triangle with common base $$= 6 : 5$$
Height of the larger triangle $$(h_{1}) = 9\ cm$$
Height of the smaller triangle $$(h_{2}) = ?$$
$$\dfrac {\text {Area of larger triangle}}{\text {Area of smaller triangle}} = \dfrac {h_{1}}{h_{2}} [\because$$ triangles have common base]
$$\dfrac {6}{5} = \dfrac {9}{h_{2}}$$
$$h_{2} = \dfrac {9\times 5}{6} = 7.5 \ cm$$
