The ratio of the length of a vertical pole and its shadow on ground is $8 : 5$ . Find the length of the shadow if the length of the pole is $40 m$ .

Length of pole $= 8 x - - - - (1)$
Length of shadow $= 5 x - - - - (2)$
Given length of pole $= 40$
$8 x = 40$
$x = 5$
$∴$ length of shadow
$= 5 (5) = 25 m$
