What is a precipitation reaction?

Open in App
Solution

Precipitation reaction:

  1. Chemical reactions known as precipitation reactions take place in aqueous solutions to produce precipitates.
  2. The precipitate, from which the reaction gets its name, is the insoluble salt that emerges from the solution.
  3. When two solutions with various salts are combined, it might happen that a cation/anion pair in the new, combined solution creates an insoluble salt.

Example:

AgNO3(aq)+KCl(aq)AgCl(s)+KNO3(aq)
