Question

The reaction F2(g)+2ClO2(g)2FeClO2(g) is first order in each of the reactants. The rate of the reaction is 4.88×104M/s, when [F2] = 0.015M and [ClO2] = 0.025 M. Calculate the rate constant of the reaction.

Solution

dRdt=k[F2][ClO2]

dRdt=4.88×104M/s

[F2]=0.015M,[ClO2]=0.025M

4.88×104=K×0.015×0.025

k=4.88×1040.015×0.025=1.301 m1s1
