The refractive index of denser medium with respect to rarer medium is 1.125. The difference between the velocities of light in the two media is 0.25×108 m/s. Find the velocities of light in the two media and their refractive indices.(c=3×108m/s).

Given refractive index of denser medium with respect to rarer medium =1.125
Also we know μD.R=VelocityinrarermediumVelocityindensermedium1.125=VRVDVR=1.125VD
Also given VRVD=0.25×108m/s
Substituting the value of VR we get
VD=2×108
so VR=2.25×108
