Given, U=a+bPV
For an ideal gas, PV=nRT
U=a+bnRT
Differentiation of the above equation,
dU=0+bnRdT.....(i)
dUdT=bnR
In general we know, dU=nCvdTdUdT=nCv.....(ii)
We know for an adiabatic process, Cv=Rγ1
Equating (i) and (ii) and substituting the value of Cv we get, 1γ1=b
γ=b+1b
