Question

The resistance and leakage reactance of a 10 kVA, 50 Hz, 2300/230 V distribution transformer are:

r1=3.96 Ω, r2=0.0396 Ω
x1=15.8 Ω, x2=0.158 Ω

The transformer delivers rated kVA at 0.8 p.f lagging to a load on LV side to maintain 230 V across load terminals. The HV side voltage is _________V.

  1. 2411.69

Solution

The correct option is A 2411.69
Turns ratio =2300230=10

r2=r2×a2=100×0.0396

=3.96 Ω

x2=x2×a2=100×0.158

=15.8 Ω

Rated current on HV side at 0.8 p.f. lagging

2300×I1=10 kVA

I1=4.3536.87

Taking V2 as reference

V1=V2+I1(r1+r2)+jI1(x1+x2)

=23000+(4.3536.87×(7.92+j31.6))

=2411.692.12 V
