Question

The resistance of 0.5 M solution of an electrolyte in a cell was found to be 50 Ω. If the electrodes in the cell are 2.2 cm apart and have an area of 4.4 cm2 then the molar conductivity (in Ω1 cm2 mol1) of the solution is:

Solution

Specific conductivity is
K=1R×la=150×2.24.4=0.01 Ω1cm1
Molar conductivity,
m=K×1000C=0.01×10000.5=20 Ω1 cm2 mol1
