The respiratory system is regulated by
Medulla ablongata
The respiratory centres (RCs) are located in the medulla oblongata and pons, which are parts of the brainstem. The RCs receive controlling signals of neural, chemical and hormonal nature and control the rate of breathing by regulating the movements of the diaphragm and other respiratory muscles.
The Medulla Oblongata is located at the lowest part of the brain stem, at the base of the skull. It is one of the most important parts of the brain that helps to regulate and control numerous autonomic functions in the body, such as digestion, blood vessel functions, heart vessel functions, breathing, sneezing, and swallowing.
