Ethylene is a gaseous phytohormone. It has both positive and negative effects.

● Initiates germination.

● Helps in apical hook formation in dicot seedlings.

● Promotes root hair formation.
● Promotes senescence and abscission of leaves and flowers.



Roles of abscisic acid:

Abscisic acid is a stress hormone and acts as a growth inhibitor. It causes both positive and negative effects on plants.

● Increases the tolerance of plants to various kinds of stresses. For example, by triggering stomatal closure.

● Induces seed dormancy and helps to withstand desiccation.
● Inhibits plant growth.
