In arithmetic growth, total number of cells after N division for a particular number of cells = Number of initial cells ×(N+1).

Out of the total cells, cells equal to the initial number will retain division capacity while the remaining cells will differentiate.

For 1000 meristematic cells, total cell produced after 5 divisions
= Number of initial cells ×(N+1)
= 1000 ( 5+1) = 6000.

Out of these 1000 cells will retain cell division capacity and 5000 cells will differentiate.
